Download: 2008_Handbook_Sections_1-6.doc  (353 KB)

The purpose of this handbook is to communicate guidelines, roles, rules and responsibilities so that they may be applied consistently throughout the organization.  The intent is to provide this handbook as a baseline while continually searching for opportunities for improvement.  During the season, the Board of Directors reserves the right to make changes to this handbook as deemed necessary in the interest of the Association.

This handbook references the Pony Rules and Regulations that can be found on-line at :

Baseball: www.northtexaspony.org/BB_boysrules_english.pdf

Softball : www.northtexaspony.org/SB_girlsrules.pdf

The following prioritized order is used to resolve any rule conflicts:

  1. Aledo Athletics Inc
  2. PONY Rules and Regulations
  3. Official Rules of Major League Baseball

There are Blast Ball, T-ball, baseball and softball teams at Aledo Athletics for boys and girls ages 3 through 14.  League age is determined by the childs age as of 5/1/2008 for Blast Ball, T-ball and baseball, and based on the age as of 1/1/2008 for softball.

Specific information on 2008 Aledo Athletics teams can be found on the league pages.

General Pony baseball and softball information is also available at www.pony.org .

Our History

The league actually began in 1963 when a field was built where the current high school football stadium is.  There were 38 boys playing from 6-12 years old.  There were four teams, the Indians, Panthers, Rebels and Dragons.  In 1976, some of the land where the current facilities are was acquired.  At that time, September 8th 1976, Aledo Athletics was incorporated.  The field that is now the Bronco baseball field and the field that is the softball field (and the concession stand) were built at that time.  We were not associated with PONY until a very few years ago.  It was somewhere around 1990 for the boys' teams.  The first girls' softball team to play in a PONY tournament was in 1990.  June King and Sandra Knight took a Bronco tournament team that included ten-year-olds because we had girls leagues split 7,8 & 9 and 10, 11 & 12.  We did not have enough girls to split them into two-year-age groups and have a league.

In 1989 (I think that was 1989), our Pinto boys team won their District and Section tournament.  I think that was as far as they went at the time, and I believe those were the first PONY tournaments any Aledo teams won.   The older boys played in Little League tournaments in places like Ranger, Eastland and Comanche.

Note:  If you have a story or pictures to add, please email them to us.  We're trying to pull together a good picture of the first 25 plus years of baseball in Aledo!
